Wilma Mae Heynen was born March 22, 1940 to Ben and Jennie (Wolfswinkle) Schoep in Sioux Center, Iowa. She was raised in the Carmel, Iowa area and graduated from Sioux Center High School.
She was joined in marriage to William “Bill” Heynen on April 8, 1960 at the Carmel Reformed Church. The couple made their home on a farm near Carmel and later near Sioux Center. The couple moved to Boyden, Iowa in 1977.
Wilma was a faithful member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church and later the Hope Christian Reformed Church of Hull.
Wilma stayed busy through her loves of cooking, crafting, and serving people. She was known for her gifts in sewing, flower arranging, and designing wedding decorations. Her reputation as a cook at the Gobblestop Turkey Shop and Boyden Burger Barn gave her the opportunity to fellowship and build friendships with those who enjoyed her food. Her compassion and willingness to serve others with these gifts will not be forgotten.
In her free time, Wilma could also be found working in the garden, baking, or spending time with friends. She enjoyed playing Dominoes and other games and was part of a card club for 50 years. She showed her love to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren through the wonderful things her hands could make and simply through her presence. Wilma’s quick wit and spunk always kept things upbeat and kept the family on their toes.
Wilma is survived by her husband Bill Heynen of Boyden; three sons and their wives: Veryl and Kandace (Kooiker) Heynen of Boyden , Bruce and Kim (Anema) Heynen of Boyden, Arlo and Connie (Vaandrager) Heynen of Sheldon, IA ; daughter-in-law, Michelle (Vande Kamp) Heynen of Rock Valley, IA; 23 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Arta Schoep of Sioux Center; sisters, Joan Van De Berg of Luverne, MN and Shirley Addink of Inwood, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law; a son, Ryan Heynen; and brother-in-law, Harold Van De Berg.
