Susan Jansma

   Susan Jansma, age 65, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Hull, IA, died Friday, November 9, 2018 at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center, IA.

   Funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at the First Reformed Church of Hull, Iowa with Rev. Kevin Yurk and Rev. John Lee officiating.   Interment will follow the service in Richland Cemetery of Inwood, Iowa.

   Visitation will be from 10 AM to time of service Tuesday, November 13 at First Reformed Church.

   The Jansma Family prefer memorials be directed to the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House in Sioux Falls, SD.

     Susan Kay (DeVries) Jansma, daughter of Clarence and Anna Mae (Kamies) DeVries was born November 17, 1952 in Canton, SD. She grew up in Inwood, IA where she attended West Lyon School.

          She was married to Dennis Jansma on September 24, 1971 in Inwood.  Sue spent many years being a stay at home mom to her four children.  In 1989, she decided to further her education and became a registered nurse.  She worked for many years at Sanford Health and more recently worked for various Avera Health home health agencies.  Sue was very proud of her work as a nurse and was very dedicated.  She spent a lot of her time being an advocate for homeless people in Sioux Falls.  She volunteered at the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House in Sioux Falls, working to ensure homeless clients had shelter and ongoing medical treatment.   

          Sue spent her free time with her grandchildren, to whom she was famously known as “Grandma Susie”.  She loved attending their various activities.  Sue enjoyed spending time in Okoboji with her family and planning family picnics throughout the year at various parks to keep all of the family in touch and together.  Sue held strong family values and always showed how much she loved her family even through her own health struggles.  Sue loved spending time with her friends and was a member of a book club for many years where she formed strong, long-lasting friendships.   She enjoyed many travels with her siblings Diane, Sheryl and Henry.  Many family memories were made at Lake Brandt, SD. 

          Sue passed away on November 9, 2018 at Sioux Center Health where she spent the last two months of her life with her family by her side. 

          Left to cherish Sue’s memory are her husband, Dennis Jansma of Hull; her children and grandchildren, daughter, Holly (Jansma) Jungers and her children, Nickolas, Bradyn, Madison, all of Paullina, IA; son, Kelly and Lisa Jansma of Hull and their children, Annette, Nathaniel, Liza, Albert, Nellie, all of Hull, IA; son, Wally Jansma of Sioux Center, and his son, Jacob; daughter, Jami (Jansma) and Jeff Van Voorst, and their children, Laney and Lily, all of Sioux Center, IA; her sisters, Diane Waters of Colorado and Sheryl Schnathorst of Ogden, UT; brother Henry "Hank" and Zeny DeVries of San Diego, CA; and her step-father, Gary Van Surksum of Inwood, IA.  

          Sue is preceded in death by her sister, Linda and her parents, Clarence DeVries and Anna Mae DeVries Van Surksum.
