Peter Moerman was born December 27, 1918 in Sioux Center, Iowa to Peter and Tryntje (Schelling) Moerman. He attended country school through the 8th grade. He grew up in Sioux Center, Iowa.

On January 31, 1941, Peter was united in marriage to Catherine Feekes at her parent’s home on the farm, in Carmel, Iowa. Peter answered the call to service in the US Army in 1942, leaving behind an expecting Catherine. Catherine and Karen anxiously waited two and a half years for him to return and start their lives together. Upon his return, the couple lived in the Sioux Center area, farmed in Luverne, Minnesota, and Carmel, Iowa, before moving to Tucson, Arizona in 1971, for Catherine’s health. They lived there for 35 years.

Peter worked at the University of Arizona Hospital, and then worked in the Post Office while living in Tucson. He retired in 1982. In 2006, Peter and Catherine moved back to Iowa and resided in Rock Valley. For the last 5 ½ years he was a resident at Whispering Heights of Rock Valley where he was lovingly cared for by the staff.

Peter was a member of the VFW Post 6129, and the Rock Valley American Legion. He was a man of faith and led by example. He was soft spoken with a dry sense of humor. Peter loved fishing and taught his grandkids how to fish. He enjoyed playing shuffleboard, playing pool, card games, board games, and dice. He was a fixer and loved working with his hands. His face lit up when the little kids came to visit. He loved his tool box.

He is survived by five children: Karen Calsbeek of Rock Valley, IA, Roger (Sheryl) Moerman of Kennewick, WA, Wilma (Doug) Kooima of Rock Valley, IA, Mary (Tom) Heeringa of Tucson, AZ, and Debra (John) Towne of Benson, AZ; 11 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nell Rodibaugh, Dena Cuperus and one sister-in-law, Darlene Moerman.

Peter is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 72 years, Catherine; son-in-law, Russ Calsbeek; grandson, Seth Sparkman; granddaughter, Lori Calsbeek; step granddaughter, Cindy Edwards; granddaughter, Corinne Moerman; seven brothers: Cornelius, John, Adrian, William, Arie, Paul and Leonard; three sisters: Henrietta, Magdalena and Katherine.
