Melvin Schuiteman was born May 5, 1925 to William and Dena (Kempers) Schuiteman in Sioux Center, Iowa. He was born and raised on a farm two miles east of Sioux Center and attended country school. On December 16, 1949, Melvin was united in marriage to Wilmina Kroese of Hull, Iowa. He continued farming with his dad on the farm where he was born and raised. He had a love for animals and his life’s work on the farm, from sowing seed to harvesting, in his fields and garden. His experiences on the farm led Melvin to be a salesman of Duroc boars to many faithful customers. Melvin and Wilmina were great working companions. They provided 40 years of cleaning services for businesses such as Farmers Coop Farm & Home Center, Groschopp, U.S. Post Office, American State Bank and Interstates Control in Sioux Center. Melvin lived on the family farm for 93 years and was honored to receive the Century Farm award at the Iowa State Fair. He moved to Royale Meadows in June, 2018.

Melvin was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. In his youth he had many years of perfect attendance in Sunday School and was honored with a reserved seat in church. His dedication to his church led him to serve as a deacon. Along with his faith, his family was very important to Melvin. Together, Melvin and Wilmina took great joy in their 6 children and spouses. Their 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren were added blessings from God. Melvin enjoyed the Sunday afternoon family gatherings at the farm. He supported his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren by attending many music and sporting events, as well as their fair activities. Melvin and Wilmina were blessed to celebrate 68 precious years together.

Wilmina, along with the children and their families are left to cherish Melvin's life.
