Gerdena J Wissink

Gerdena Wissink, 92, of Sioux Center, IA, died Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa.

 A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12PM until 1PM at First Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

Interment and prayer service will be held Wednesday at 1:00PM at the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.  

 A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00PM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating.

Gerdena Wissink was born to Gerrit and Emma (Smit) Koerselman in Middleburg, Iowa.  She grew up in on the family farm and attended country school. 

 Gerdena was united in marriage to Marion Wissink on August 12, 1948 in Sioux Center. The couple made their home in Sioux Center where they raised four children. Together they enjoyed camping and fishing and spending time with friends and family.  The couple celebrated 52 years of marriage before Marion passed away on August 9, 2000. 

 Gerdena enjoyed gardening and taking care of flowers. She could often be found in her kitchen cooking for her family and friends.  She liked to stay busy and would often do craft projects and quilting. Gerdena was a longtime member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center and participated in bible studies and Circle groups. She also volunteered for a time with the Foster Grandparent Program.  

 She is survived by her children: Mary (Art) Zeilenga of Sioux Center; Darwin (Carol) Wissink of Niwot, CO; Darrell (Patty) Wissink of Lincoln, NE, Rhonda (Ron) Wheeler of Granbury, TX; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Cliff and Verda Koerselman of Le Mars, Iowa.

 Those who have preceded her in death are her husband, Marion; four siblings: Cornie (Elizabeth) Koerselman, Gary (Leona) Koerselman; Teneva (Bill) Kroon, Esther (Bill) Plantage.
