Nelvina Mulder, age 85, of Sioux Center, IA, died Sunday, April 29, 2018 at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City, IA.
Memorial service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 2nd at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Prayer service will take place at 10:00 AM at First Reformed Church before burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 1st from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
Memorials may be directed to the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City, IA.
Nelvina Mulder was born on October 28, 1932 in Sioux Center, Iowa the daughter of Henry and Johanna (Westra) Lammers. She was raised on a farm three miles west of Sioux Center and graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1951.
Nelvina was united in marriage to Harry Mulder on December 28, 1951 in Sioux Center, Iowa. They lived the first couple years of married life in Sioux Center until they moved to the family farm in February of 1956 where they resided together until Harry passed away on April 29, 2008. Nelvina was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest joys were the times she was able to spend with her family.
Nelvina was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center, Iowa, where she was an active member of the Ruth Circle for many years and participated in making many beautiful quilts with the women of First Reformed. She served as a member of Homemakers in addition to serving as President of Farm Bureau for Women. Her interests also included spending summers at Cutty’s of Okoboji and winter months at Trophy Gardens in Alamo, Texas where she was blessed with the opportunity to form many beautiful friendships over the years. Words cannot truly express how much she enjoyed the wonderful times that she was able to spend with family and friends.
Nelvina was a true woman of faith. Her family will always remember her as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and as a strong, devoted Christian who encouraged her family to follow their dreams. Those to honor her memory are her children, Marilyn (Gerald) Brummel of Hull, IA, Connie (Chuck) Vander Ploeg of Sioux Center, IA, Verlyn (Robin) Mulder of Sioux Center, IA, Harv Mulder of Sioux Center, IA, Starla Meyer of Hull, IA, Sandy (John) Griffioen of Sioux Center, IA, and Marv and Kim Meendering of Sioux Center. She was also blessed with 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Other family members include sisters, Hermina Richmond of Hull, Hendrene Kalsbeek and Betty Van Wyk of Sioux Center, sister-in-law Adeline Lammers of Hull, sister-in-law Garlene Mulder of Rock Rapids and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Charles and Kay Mulder of Ireton.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Harry Mulder; daughter, Rachel Meendering; son-in-law Loren Meyer; daughter-in-law, Laurie Meendering; her parents Henry and Johanna Lammers; Harry’s parents Charles and Maggie Mulder; brother Dick Lammers; brother and sister-in-law Stan and Nancy Lammers; sister-in-law, Sena Mulder; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dick and Suzanne Mulder; brother-in-law Henry Mulder; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Steve and Tillie Vanden Brink; sister-in-law Joyce Mulder; and four brothers-in-law: Frank Richmond, Jason Vander Heiden, Milo Kalsbeek and Elmer Van Wyk.
