Phillip Mouw was born July 15, 1941 in Sioux Center, IA to Irvin and Patricia (Van De Brake) Mouw. He was raised and received his education in Sioux Center. Phil joined the United States Army and specialized in communications. On November 27, 1964 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Reynolds. To this union three children were born: Steve, Michon and Scott. Phil’s family will remember him as a loving and sensitive man of high character. He was a very kind, caring and perceptive man. He had a sense of knowing what people were feeling and an ability to identify ways to help without being asked. His gifts of intuition and helpfulness were evident to all who knew Phil. He was a quiet servant, without expecting recognition for his good deeds. Phil was a lifelong member of the Sioux Center community. He was not simply a resident of Sioux Center, but a loyal proponent of advancing the community. He proudly served as a member of the American Legion and participated in the Color Guard faithfully. Phil was well known for his appreciation of classic cars, particularly from the 1950s.

Phil was a devout and steadfast Christian. His commitment to the principles of Christianity were apparent to all in his priorities: church, home and work. Phil was influential to so many who knew him without needing to say much. He enriched others faith through his actions. Phil endured significant health conditions for 35 years. His meticulous nature proved beneficial in managing his challenging diagnoses. While Phil faced discouraging life changing consequences due to his health, he impressed everyone with his positive acceptance of what he was given to deal with. Phil will be deeply missed for his selfless Christian nature by his family, friends and his community.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Mouw; son, Steve Mouw of Sioux Center; daughter, Michon (Ryan) Lubbers and their children, Mitchell, Marcus and Gina Lubbers all of Grandville, MI; son, Scott (Tonya) Mouw and their children, Rhea, Claire and Haley Mouw all of Kalamazoo, MI; brother, Dan (Bonnie) Mouw of Racine, WI; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Patricia Mouw.
