Bernard “Bernie” Mulder age 74 formerly of Rock Valley, IA died Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, IA.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, with family present from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center, IA.
The funeral service be held on Wednesday, April 4th at 1:00 p.m. at the Carmel Reformed Church of Carmel, IA, with Reverend Mike Pitsenberger officiating.
Burial will follow in the Carmel Cemetery of Carmel, IA.
In lieu of flowers or gifts memorials may be directed to: Carmel Reformed Church or Sanford Senior Care Memory Unit in Sheldon, IA.
Bernard Roy Mulder was born on January 11, 1944 in Le Mars, IA, the son of Raymond B. and Anna (Van Otterloo) Mulder. He grew up on a farm near Rock Valley and attended Rock Valley Christian and Western Christian.
On February 26, 1965, Bernie was united in marriage to Linda Jean Ten Haken at the First Reformed Church in Hull, IA. To this union four children were born, Teresa, Terry, Bryan and Carmen. Bernie served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was discharged on December 24, 1969. The couple made their home in Chino, CA for one year. They returned to Iowa and moved to Lebanon, where they farmed for approximately ten years. They then moved to Carmel where they made their permanent home and Bernie worked for Cappers Reader’s Service.
Bernie was a member of the Carmel Reformed Church and the National Guard. He enjoyed jogging, gardening, watching Iowa Hawkeye football and playing tennis. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their school activities.
Bernie is survived by his four children: Teresa (Owen) Sandbulte of Carmel, IA, Terry (Lisa) Mulder of Sioux City, IA, Bryan Mulder of Sioux Falls, SD and Carmen (Nathan) Maassen of Sioux Center, IA; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; two siblings: Arletta (Clarence) Dorhout of Orange City, IA and Harley (Elsie Jean) Mulder of Highlands Ranch, CO; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-one years, Linda Mulder; his parents; Raymond and Anna Mulder; sister, Ravina “Vine” De Zeeuw; and sister-in-law, Harriett Mulder.
