Patricia L Smith

     Patricia Smith, 67 of Rock Valley, IA, formerly of Sioux Center, IA, died Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Whispering Heights Care Center in Rock Valley, IA.

     An 11:00 AM memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 17th at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Dr. Jason Lief officiating.

     A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

     A visitation will be held on Friday from 5-7PM, with the family present at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

     Patricia Lynn (Vos) Smith was born February 5, 1951, in Hawarden, IA, to Peter and Anna (Haverhals) Vos. She attended Rock Valley Christian Grade School and graduated from Sioux Center Public High School. On May 31, 1974, she was united in marriage to Paul Ernest Smith at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. The couple made their home in Sioux Center where they raised their four children. Patty was a lifelong member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center where she was a member of the JOY Society. Patty worked as a CNA and in the housekeeping area of various nursing homes and Sioux Center Hospital. She truly enjoyed working with and caring for the residents.   In later years she worked making pizzas at Casey’s in Sioux Center. She was known for her especially good pizza. In 2009, she became a part of the Foster Grandparent Program in Rock Valley. She served children and Hope Haven clients. She enjoyed serving in this way even while living in the nursing home. She retired from the program in January due to her failing health.

   Patty was a dedicated and loving mother. She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally. She enjoyed family and any opportunity to spend time with them. Patty was always anxious to show off her family photos to everyone. Patty lost her husband of 35 years in 2009. In 2015, due to failing health, she moved to Whispering Heights Care Center in Rock Valley. This past Tuesday Patricia Smith passed away at the age of 67. She will be greatly missed.

    
     She is survived by her children, son, Mike (Stefenie) Smith of Rock Valley and their children: Emily Smith of Inwood, IA, Michell, Clara, and Paige Smith all of Rock Valley; daughter, Stacy (Shawn) Andringa of Sanborn, IA and their children: Halle, Morgan, Riely and Thalan, all of Sanborn, IA; sons, Brent Smith of Rock Valley and Nathan Smith of Hull, IA; brothers: Don (Gert) Vos of Ripon, CA and Kenny Vos of Hudson, SD, and other extended family members.

    
     She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; sister-in-law, Midge Vos; brothers-in-law, Dan Smith and Harold Smith.
