Lavina Vanden Brink

     Lavina, Vanden Brink, 85, of Sioux Center, IA, died Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at Sioux Center Health Hospital in Sioux Center, IA.

    

     Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center, IA with Reverend Arnoud Vergunst officiating.

    

     Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

    

     Visitation will be Monday February 5th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

     Lavina Vanden Brink was born June 15, 1932 near Rock Valley, Iowa the daughter of Henry “Hank” and Anna (Groeneweg) Van Ginkel. She graduated from High School in Rock Valley. On February 22, 1952, Lavina was united in marriage to Richard Vanden Brink at her parent’s home in Rock Valley, Iowa. Richard and Lavina farmed near Rock Valley, Rock Rapids and the last 27 years near Sioux Center. They retired to Sioux Center in 1989. Lavina spent many hours working next to her husband doing chores as well as driving tractor in the field. She and Richard enjoyed going fishing together and time spent traveling together during their retirement years. One of the more special trips the couple made was to Washington, DC. They enjoyed touring the nation’s capital and taking in all the sites. On November 18, 2013 Richard passed away after 61 years of marriage. Lavina loved her family very much and loved time spent with them. She made herself proficient with a computer and looked forward to keeping up with all the goings on with her family on Facebook. She also enjoyed the fellowship of her neighboring residents at the condo and the time spent together working on puzzles. This past Wednesday, Lavina passed away surrounded by loving family at the Sioux Center Health Hospital at the age of 85. She will be greatly missed.

      

     She is survived by her daughters, Audrey (Wayne) Koenen of Rock Valley, Jan (Ron) Boon of Sioux Center, IA; and son, James (Nicole Hegeman) Vanden Brink of Carmel, IA; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Gertrude Smith and Bernice Hup, brother, Harold (Glenda) Van Ginkel; sister-in-law, Clazina Van Ginkel; brother-in-law, Frank Wynia; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Henrietta Vanden Brink, sister-in-law, Josie Koedam; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

    
     Lavina was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; son, Randall; granddaughter-in-law, Sacha Boon; sister, Marlene Wynia; brother, Everett Van Ginkel; brothers-in-law, Gerrit Hup and William Smith; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Steve and Tillie Vanden Brink; sisters-in-law, Gertrude Vanden Brink and Henrietta Vanden Brink.
