Douglas Opheim

     Douglas Opheim, 53, of Sioux Center, IA, died suddenly, Thursday, January 25, 2018, at Sioux Falls, SD.

     Memorial service will be 10:30 Monday, January 29, 2018 at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center, IA.

     Visitation will be Sunday, January 28th from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM with family present at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

     Douglas Ivan Opheim was born July 12, 1964 in Emmetsburg, IA the son of Stanley and Dorothy (Osborn) Opheim. He was raised on the family farm near Whittemore, IA. Doug graduated from Algona High School before going on to receive a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Iowa State University in Ames, IA. He has been employed for the last 10 years at the SELC Ethanol plant in Sioux Center. Doug loved to ride his Harley motorcycle. When he was at the Sturgis motorcycle rally in 2016 he met Alison Baldridge. They wed in October of 2017. The couple made their home in Maurice, IA. They enjoyed taking trips together by motorcycle and car. When the weather turned cooler, Doug and Alison would take the 1968 Camaro convertible he restored. He was very fond of the Camaro and his Jeep. Doug had fond memories of growing up on the farm near Whittemore. Milking cows and doing chores weren’t necessarily his favorite parts, but he sure enjoyed the many pranks and mischief he and his brothers shared. Doug loved his family very much. Holidays were never boring or easy to forget when the brothers and their families all got together. Doug’s children will remember him fondly as well. He loved them dearly. This past Thursday Doug passed away suddenly at the age of 53. He will be greatly missed.

    
     He is survived by his wife, Alison Opheim of Maurice, IA; daughter, Ashley Opheim and her children, Meredith and Lillian Reynolds, all of Orange City, IA; son, Shawn Opheim of Sioux Center, IA; daughter, Josie Opheim of Ft. Meyers, FL; and son, Dylan Opheim of Maurice, IA; step-sons, Lance (Christal) Atkins and their children, Cason and Maddie all of Jackson, OH and Jon Atkins of Ireton, IA; brother, Steven (Mary) Opheim of Ft. Dodge, IA; brother, Brent (Carol) Opheim of Whittemore, IA; brother, Bruce (Candice) Opheim of Whittemore, IA; niece, Stacy Opheim of Storm Lake, IA; nephew, Mike Opheim of Whittemore, IA; niece, Lynzie (Mike) Nilles of Luverne, IA; nephew, Brandon Opheim of Ames, IA; niece, Courtnie Opheim of East Dubuque, IL; and other extended family members.

    
     Doug was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lisa Opheim.
