Grace J. Haverhals

Grace J. Haverhals, age 91, of Sioux Center, IA died Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Hudson Care and Rehab Center in Hudson, SD.

   Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 20th, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. John Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

   Visitation will be Friday, January 19th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with the family present from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

     Grace J. Haverhals was born July 25, 1926 at Hawarden, IA the daughter of Gerrit and Bertha (Kooi) Vander Lugt. She attended Garfield #8 country school through the 8th grade.  On February 12, 1947 she was united in marriage to Severt A. Haverhals in the Lebanon Christian Reformed Church and farmed NW of Hawarden where their 5 children were born and raised. They moved into Sioux Center in 1989. After 60 years of marriage Severt passed away in April 2007. Her teen years were spent helping and working for many others in various jobs.  She especially loved and enjoyed all of God’s beautiful creation as well as all joys of being a homemaker for her precious family. Her happiness was “striving to live in the will of her Lord”.

    
     Grace is survived by her children, Sharon (Gil) Van De Stroet of Inwood, IA, Mike (Hazel) Haverhals of Hawarden, IA, Lorna (Bob) Huyser of Hull, IA, Jeff (Rhonda) Haverhals of Harrisburg, SD, and Dawn (Bill) Kitchenmaster of Lake Andes, SD; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; brother, Allen (Annetta) Vander Lugt of Grand Rapids, MI; sisters, Lois Hooyer of Sioux Center, IA, and Dorothy Bennett of Grand Rapids, MI; as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

    
     She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Severt Haverhals; brother, Ray (Esther) Vander Lugt; sister, Margaret (Andy) Vander Stoep; 2 great-grandsons, baby Justice Huyser and baby Austin Taylor; in-laws, Tony Hooyer, Ann (Pete) Vos, Bertha Haverhals, Henrietta (Wilbur) Huenink, Nellie (Marvin) Huenink.
