Theodore Devries

     Theodore DeVries, age 82, of Sioux Center, IA, the former owner of Magic Wheels Roller Skating Rink, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, IA.

     Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 30, 2017 at New Life Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Rev. Dan Kruse officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

     Visitation will be Friday, December 29^th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with family present at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

     Theodore DeVries was born July 26, 1935 on the family farm near Ellsworth, MN, the son of Peter and Agnes (Martens) DeVries. He received his education at Little Rock, IA. On April 24, 1959 he was united in marriage to Sharon Ehlers in Ashton, IA. Ted worked at IBP in Luverne, MN from 1960 until 1979. He and Sharon then moved to Sioux Center and built and operated the Magic Wheels Roller Skating Rink. They operated the rink until 1995. Many fond memories and a few courtships were formed at the rink. For six summers Ted and Sharon traveled to various locations such as fairs and private celebrations operating a mini-donut and super slide business. He was known for his wonderful Lemon Shake Ups. From 1991 until 2008 the couple owned and operated White Oaks Camp Ground at West Lake Okoboji. He spent many winters in Arizona. He loved to visit. Ted enjoyed striking up a conversation with a stranger almost as well as visiting with many of his dear friends. He enjoyed bowling, and square dancing and will be remembered as a man who could fix anything. But most of all he loved time with his wife, family and friends. This past Tuesday Ted passed away at Mercy Hospital in Sioux City at the age of 82. He will be greatly missed.

     He is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Sharon DeVries of Sioux Center; son, Paul (Kimberly) DeVries and their children, Lexie Marie DeVries and Peter Stephen DeVries all of Blaine, MN; daughter, Sharla (Bob) Kommes and their children Kyle Robert Kommes, Jamie Kay Kommes, Brady Theodore Kommes and Andrea Marie Kommes all of LeMars, IA; sister, Paulette (Steve) Connell of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law, Daryl Anderson of Waseca, MN; nieces, Kim (Chad) LaGrange of Elkton, NE and Angela (Jim) Schramm of Mankato, MN; and other extended family members.

     Ted was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Michael Carl; and sister, H. Ann Anderson.
