Harold J Kaemingk

    Harold J. Kaemingk, age 89, of Sioux Center, IA, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center, Ia.

 

     Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 18th at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with Reverend Jamie Dykstra officiating.

 

     Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center, with military honors by Doornink-Brunsting American Legion Post 199 and the VFW Post 6129 of Sioux Center.

 

     Visitation will be Monday, December 18th from noon until time of service, with family present from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center.

 

     In lieu of flowers family would like memorials directed to: Sioux Center High School Music or Athletic Boosters.

     Harold J. Kaemingk was born on November 7, 1928 in Sioux Center, IA, the son of Theodore and Alice (Schutt) Kaemingk.  He attended country school at West Branch #4 and later graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1945.  Harold was drafted in the U.S. Army on March 26, 1951 and honorably discharged on March 20, 1953 in Michigan.  Harold moved back to the Sioux Center area and worked for Bernard Vermeer on his farm.  After working for Bernard Vermeer for several years he started working for Farmers Coop Lumber Yard for nine and a half years from 1956 to 1966.  He then worked for twenty-six years as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1992.

     Harold was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, where he was a Sunday school teacher for many years.  He also served as a deacon and an elder.  He was a lifelong member of the American Legion and VFW.  Harold loved sports and liked to play golf, fast pitch softball and bowled in a league for many years.  He volunteered for high school events such as helping with the time clock at track meets and basketball games and running the chain gang for football games.  He liked to hunt and trap muskrats and racoons for their fur.  Harold was also very supportive of his nieces and nephews.

     Harold is survived by two sisters-in-law:  Helen Kaemingk and Ravina De Zeeuw both of Sioux Center, IA; a brother-in-law, Bill Kooi of Orange City, IA; and nineteen nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers:  Arnold, Tunis and Theodore Kaemingk; sister, Margaret “Mike” Kooi; sister and brother-in-law:  Wilemina and Arvin Schuiteman.
