Clara Wagenaar, age 91, of Sioux Center, IA, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, IA, with Reverend Jamie Dykstra officiating.
Burial will follow at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, IA.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center.
Clara Wagenaar was born on March 7, 1926 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Herman and Jennie (Evenhouse) Heersema. She grew up in Evergreen Park, IL and attended Evergreen Park Christian School. Clara was united in marriage to Siebert “Steve” Fischer and to this union two children were born Carol and Steven. They were later divorced, and Clara married Andrew “Bud” Wagenaar on August 2, 1971 in Chicago, IL. They made their home in Sioux Center, IA. Clara was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, where she was very active in her younger years. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Clara is survived by two children: Carol (Vern) De Boer of Rock Valley, IA and Steve Fischer of Sioux Center, IA; two granddaughters, Lori Horstman of Hull, IA and Kristine (Ron) Mace of North Liberty, IA; seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marie Vander Wall of Illinois; brother, Henry (Jean) Heersema of Orland Park, IL; and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew “Bud” Wagenaar on February 20, 2000; and a brother, Ralph Heersema.
