Frank Pollema, 79, of Sioux Center, IA. passed away Friday, November 17, 2017 while under hospice care at his home.
Memorial Service will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 22nd at First Reformed Church of Sioux Center, IA. with Reverend Roger Voskuil officiating. Burial will be prior to the service at Memory Garden Cemetery of Sioux Center.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 21st from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with family present at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
Frank was born on December 27, 1937 in Hull, Iowa. the son of Simon and Margaret (De Jong) Pollema. He graduated from Hull High School in 1955. After his education he entered the U.S. Navy on August 11, 1955.
Frank was united in marriage to Audrey Jean Schelhaas on July 5, 1957. He continued serving his country until he received his honorable discharge on December 17, 1958.
Frank had a variety of jobs over the years, such as Bulk Feed Truck Driver, bookkeeper for City of Sioux Center, IA. owned and operated Compaan’s Dry Cleaners and Sam’s Variety Store. He later worked in Real Estate, both as a realtor and auctioneer. He drove bus for Area 4, served as Safety Director for Joe’s Ready Mix and was a car salesman at Ver Hoef Chevrolet. Through the years, Frank and Audrey lived in 27 different homes in Sioux Center. Frank was a member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, an RCYF sponsor, served as church usher for many years and active with Bible Study groups. He was also a Cub Scout Leader, active with the Salvation Army, served as Treasurer for Lions Club and served on Iowa’s Safety Board for Iowa Ready Mix. He loved attending the grandchildren’s sporting events, playing cards with friends, attending Christian Music concerts, and especially detailing his vehicles and riding his John Deere Mower.
Frank is survived by his wife of 60 years, Audrey Pollema of Sioux Center, IA; three children and their families, daughter, Patricia (Dale) Rozeboom of Janesville, WI. their children, Mark Rozeboom, Marie (Andrew) de Stadler and Molly Rozeboom, daughter, Brenda (Bryan) Van Beek of Sioux Center, IA. and their children, Heather Van Beek, Matthew (Amanda) Van Beek and Austin (Jaci) Van Beek, son, Daniel (Angie) Pollema of Jefferson, SD and their children, Christian Pollema, Katelyn and Nathan Rice, and Beau and Sammie Pollema; six great-grandchildren, Anabelle Grace de Stadler, Hunter, Hayden and Addisyn Van Beek, Graysen and Camren Van Beek; four brothers; two sisters; and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Margaret Pollema and niece Michelle Feenstra.
