Alyda was born in Sioux Center, IA, on December 30, 1926, to Peter and Hattie (Harskamp) Van Der Weide. After graduating from the 8th grade, Alyda worked hard on the family farm. She also worked at various restaurants in her younger years. Alyda was united in marriage to Asa Olivier on April 17, 1964, in Luverne, MN. To this union, one child was born, Loretta Faye (Lori). Alyda spent several years working as a cook at Central Cafe in Sioux Center, which she always referred to as the "good old days." During their marriage, Asa & Alyda were known for their well-manicured vegetable gardens. Alyda also enjoyed selling her garden produce at the Farmer's Market in Sioux Center. She was an excellent cook and baker. Her homemade bread and chocolate chip cookies were delectable! In her leisure time, Alyda enjoyed having coffee with her family and friends, reading, and shopping/going to garage sales with her daughter. She was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Sioux Center.

Alyda was a selfless and compassionate person. Everyone enjoyed her keen sense of humor. She had a deep love for her family and a strong faith. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was especially proud of her three great-grandchildren. When speaking of them she would always say, "I couldn't love them more."

She resided at Franken Manor in Sioux Center for a short period of time and then moved to Alcester Care & Rehabilitation Center in July 2017.

Alyda will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Lori (Ron) Wallenburg of Doon, IA; granddaughter, Bonita (Bobby) Van Otterloo and their children, Olivia Rose and Peyton Justine all of Sioux Center, IA; granddaughter, Sabrina Van Schepen and her son, Breckin Bruce, of Rock Valley, IA; step-son, Lowell (Bonnie) Olivier and their daughter, Christina of Grand Rapids, MI; brothers, Harold (Rose) Van Der Weide of Orange City, IA; Eddie (Ramona) Van Der Weide of Sioux Center, IA; Gene (Karen) Van Der Weide of Sioux City, IA; sisters-in-law, Millie Van Der Weide and Hildred Van Der Weide both of Sioux Center, IA; nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and friends.
