August 15, 1933 — November 1, 2017

     Nelvie Wynia age 84 of Sioux Center, IA died Wednesday,  November 1, 2017 at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center, IA.

     Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday, November 6, 2017 at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Rev. Jamie Dykstra officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

 

     Visitation will be Sunday, November 5th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with family present from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

    
In lieu of flowers family wishes memorials be directed to the Sioux Center VFW or the Sioux Center Veterans Memorial.

     Nelvie Jacoba Wynia was born August 15, 1933 near Alton, IA to Harry and Elizabeth (Vander Griend) Kroeze. She received her education at a country school near Alton. On December 26, 1951 Nelvie was united in marriage to John Wynia. Shortly after their marriage, John left to serve his country in the Korean War. Nelvie lived with her parents until his return and worked by helping families and cleaning houses. Once John returned home the couple began their lives together on a farm west of Sioux Center. To their marriage six boys were born. She loved gardening, cooking, canning, fishing, vacationing and making pillow cases. She will forever be remembered as a wonderful mother, wife and friend. Her dedication to her family and community was her gift of love. She truly had a servant’s heart. Nelvie and John attended First Reformed Church all the years of their marriage. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

 

     She is survived by her sons, Don (Arnola) Wynia of Sioux Center, Rob (Deanna) Wynia of Sioux Center, Ken (Mary) Wynia of Holland, MI, Nelson (Deb) Wynia of Maurice, IA, Glenn (Nancy) Wynia of Sioux Center, and Bernie (Kim) of Sioux Center; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 1 great great-grandchild; sister, Harriet Vander Linden; and sister-in-law, Joyce Kroeze; many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

 

     Nelvie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; daughter, Lorna Mae; grandson, David Alan; brother, Ed Kroeze; and brother-in-law, Bill Vander Linden.
