Dorothy De Vos age 81 of Sioux Center, IA died Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, IA.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017 at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, IA with Rev. Stephen Breen, officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery at Sioux Center, IA.
Visitation will be Friday, October 20th from 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. with the family present at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
Dorothy Mae “Dolly” De Vos was born on November 10, 1935 to Herman and Lena (Vanderham) Weyen in Chatsworth Iowa. She attended grade school in Chatsworth and graduated from Hawarden High School. On September 3, 1953 she married Cornie “Jack” De Vos in Sioux Center, where they made their home. Dolly stayed at home with her children. When they started school, she began working and spent many years in the Sioux Center Community School kitchens, serving children. Dolly was an active member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Jack and Dolly were blessed with 55 years of marriage before he passed away on August 21, 2008. Dolly enjoyed cooking, baking and was well known for her Christmas candy. She loved to crochet and sew. She enjoyed vacations at Lake Winnie, traveling, sightseeing and an occasional trip to bingo or to the Casino. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren and watching their sporting events.
Left to honor her memory: two children and their spouses: Michael and Sharon De Vos of Sergeant Bluff and Larry and Kathi Buyert of Sioux Center; three grandchildren: Jacky (De Vos) and Niels Bestenbreur of the Netherlands, Brett and Jessica Buyert of Ireton, Trenton (TJ) Buyert of Sioux Center; three step grandchildren and their spouses: Mike and Cindy Zortman of Sioux City, Rick and Janean Zortman of Whiting, Shontelle and Todd Blair of Sgt. Bluff; seven step great-grandchildren and four step great-great- grandchildren; one sister: Betty Meyer of Akron and one brother: Ray Weyen of Sioux Center; five sisters-in-law: Jane Den Ouden of Seney, Nupe Jeltema of Orange City, Mert De Vos of Ventura, Geneva De Vos of Le Mars, Nel De Gooyer of Maurice, and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Jack; infant twin daughters; parents Herman and Lena Weyen; brother, Dean Weyen; sisters-in-law Pat Weyen and Helen Weyen; brothers-in-law Casey Den Ouden, Jim Jeltema, Herm De Vos, Marvin De Vos and Donald De Gooyer.
