Gertrude “Trudy” (Peuse) Van Beek was born December 12, 1944, the daughter of William and Hester (Cleveringa) Peuse at Orange City, IA. Her first home was on a farm near Maurice, IA, but later moved with her parents to a farm near Newkirk. She went to school in Newkirk through the 5th grade and then moved again with her family to a farm near Middleburg, IA. There she went to a country school through the 8th grade. She attended Sioux Center community school through her high school years, graduating in 1962. She worked as a waitress for a while and then went to Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls, SD. After graduation she did not pursue a job in that field but decided she enjoyed the interaction with people that she experienced as a waitress, so she continued as a waitress. Trudy was united in marriage to Klaas Van Beek on June 17, 1964, at the Middleburg Free Grace Reformed Church. They made their home in Sioux Center. Klaas worked at Mouw Mortor Co. and Trudy worked as a waitress at Marv’s Lunch. After about 2 ½ years of marriage Klaas was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was sent to Fort Ord, CA where Trudy joined him after basic training. Klaas then received orders to go to Germany. After Klaas served his country, they returned to Sioux Center. Trudy was a devoted wife and a loving mother to her four children.
She is survived by her husband, Klaas of Sioux Center, IA; four children, David Van Beek of Sioux Center, Greg (Chris) Van Beek of Sioux Center, Doug (Brenda) Van Beek of Harrisburg, SD and Kim Donlin of Sioux Center; ten grandchildren; and one brother, John (Helen) Peuse of Sioux Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Hester; sister-in-law, Gloria Peuse.
