Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Sioux Center, IA with Fr. Doug Klein, officiating.
She will be laid to rest alongside her husband at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 12th in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery at Storm Lake, IA.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October, 11th from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. with the family present at the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
There will be a Vigil service at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Memorial Funeral Home.
Mardelle Ploeger was born July 29, 1925, to Frank and Victoria Olberding at her grandparents’ farm home in Breda IA. She was helped into the world by her father, Frank. She grew up in Odebolt IA and attended St. Martins Parochial School. She did not complete her high school education as she was needed at home to take care of her younger sister. Mardelle also did housework and worked as a waitress. In 1944, during WWII she moved to Omaha, NE to help the war effort by becoming a “Rosie” at the Martin Bomber Plant. After the war she attended the Sioux City School of Cosmetology and worked in a beauty shop in Rock Rapids to continue her training. After hearing of a beauty shop for sale in Schaller, IA she moved closer to home and met her husband Lester Ploeger. They were united in marriage on September 28, 1949, in Storm Lake IA. She continued beauty work for many years until quitting to help her husband as an assistant funeral director of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Schaller. In 1990, Mardelle and her husband, Lester, retired and moved to Sioux Center. Mardelle was a Foster Grandparent for children in Rock Valley and later at Kinsey Elementary School in Sioux Center. Her husband Lester passed away on June 9, 1996. In April 2010, Mardelle moved to Crown Pointe assisted living in Sioux Center and in December 2013, to Hillcrest Healthcare Center in Hawarden.
Born to the marriage of Lester and Mardelle were 2 daughters, Linda (John) Adolphson of Tumwater, WA and Victoria Dibbet of Maurice IA. Mardelle was also blessed with 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren who were all with her until her death. Other survivors include Marlin Dibbet (x-husband of Victoria); sisters, Elaine (Joseph) Kennedy of Omaha, NE and Sharon Truex of Benecia, CA; brother, Vernon (Sandy) Olberding of Spencer, IA and sister-in-law, Grace Ploeger of Garner, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; brother, Norman Olberding; sister, Marilyn (Robert) Thompson; infant sister, Mary, along with several brothers and sisters-in-law.
