Mary Van De Berg

February 1, 1945 — May 22, 2017

     Mary Van De Berg, age 72, of Sioux Center, IA, died Monday, May 22, 2017 at her home near Sioux Center, IA.

     Memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, May 26, 2017 at Carmel Reformed Church of Rock Valley, IA with Rev. Mike Pitsenberger and Rev. Bob Holtrop officiating.

     Prayer service for family and friends will be held 9:00 AM Friday at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.  Interment will follow the prayer service at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

     Visitation will be held Thursday May 25th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

     Memorials may be made to the Carmel Reformed Church 2801 360th St., Rock Valley, IA  51247.

     Mary (Vander Esch) Van De Berg was born on February 1, 1945 to Leonard & Gertrude (Van Wyk) Vander Esch at Hawarden, IA.  She was raised on a farm near Hawarden and later in town.   She was educated at various schools near Hawarden and graduated from West Sioux High School in 1963.

     Mary and Ralph Van De Berg were married on June 19, 1964 at Sioux Center, IA.  The couple then moved to the farm where Ralph was born and raised.  They enjoyed sharing the gift of hospitality of many people. Ralph passed away on August 6, 2016.  Mary continued to live on the farm until her death.  Mary had a very loving heart for many people. She was a member of area churches and enjoyed several Bible studies.  Her current membership was at Carmel Reformed Church.  She was well known in the community as she worked twenty-six years at the Fareway Grocery in the Meat department in Sioux Center.

     Survivors include a son, Scott (Jolynn) Van De Berg of Alton, IA; daughter Leah Van De Berg of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren, Sarah (Chris) Van Beek of Alton, IA, Audra (Kevin) Christian of Sioux Center, IA; Weston (Kelsey) Van De Berg of Orange City, IA, Tyson Van De Berg, Alton, IA; two great grandchildren, one brother, Lee (Marilyn) Vander Esch of Port Huron, MI,  three sisters, Geri (Bob) DeBoom of Allen, TX,  Linda (Stan) Dykstra of Bozeman, MT, Betty (Jim) Dunnam of Alcester, SD, three sisters-in-law, Verna (Arend) Sandbulte of Duluth, MN, Hendrene (John J.) Zoet of Hull, IA, Ardith (Verdean) Wynja, two brothers-in-law, Lloyd J. Van Roekel and Wilmer (Wynetta) Van De Berg, both of Sioux Center, IA: one sister-in-law Joan Van De Berg of Luverne, MN.

      She was also preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Gertrude Vander Esch, Ralph’s parents Henry and Della Van De Berg, two sisters-in-law Elma Van Roekel, Eldora (Harold) Van Zandbergen, one brother-in-law Harold Van De Berg.
