Harold Kuiken

April 27, 1929 — May 18, 2017

     Harold Kuiken age 88 of Sioux Center, IA died Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center, IA.

     Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday May 24th at the New Life Reformed Church in Sioux Center, IA with Rev. Dan Kruse, officiating. 

     Burial with military honors will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery at Sioux Center, IA.

     Visitation will be Tuesday May 23rd from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

     Harold Dean Kuiken was born April 27, 1929, at Maurice, IA the son of Martin and Tillie (Scheeringa) Kuiken.  Harold grew up on a farm and received his education from a country school near George.  As a young man, Harold served his country in the United States Army in the artillery during the Korean War from 1951-1953.  He was united in marriage to Wilma De Vos on July 27, 1951 at First Christian Reformed Church at Sioux Center.  They made their home at Sioux Center, IA.  Harold was a carpenter for more than 60 years in the Sioux Center area.  During those years, he built multiple homes for his family.  He was a member of the New Life Reformed Church and the VFW in Sioux Center, IA.  He enjoyed tinkering and making wood projects and toys, camping and fishing.  He also enjoy sharing his knowledge and talent for building and renovating homes by going on mission trips in the South with members of the church and community.

     Harold is survived by his wife, Wilma of Sioux Center, IA; their children, Harvey Kuiken of Redmond, WA; Bonnie (Dick) De Groot of Sioux Falls, SD; Elaine Kuiken of Sioux Center, IA; Owen (Cindy) Kuiken of Belview, WA; Lorie (Joe) Skundberg of Kenosha, WI; Kristi Eldredge of Hartford, SD; Sheila (Merrill) Bohnenkamp of Sioux Center, IA and Irwin “Bud” (Karen) Kuiken of Hartford, SD; 23 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sisters, Glenda Schut (Glen) of Rapid City, SD and Beverly (Ron) Brink of Orange City, IA and brothers, Stanley (Ann) Kuiken of Rapid City, SD and Martin Jr. (Sherrill) Kuiken of Canon City, CO.  Sister-In-Law  Margaret Kuiken of Luverne, MN.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Tillie and one brother, Donald Kuiken.
