Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 8th at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, IA, with Rev. Jamie Dykstra officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery at Sioux Center, IA.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 7th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. with the family present at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated to Good Samaritan Society, Memory Care Unit in Windom, MN.
Bertha (Ennema) Vermeer was born November 9, 1930, at Sioux Center, IA the daughter of Herman and Grace (Schuiteman) Ennema. Bertha attended country school at Sioux Center. She was united in marriage with Harvey Lee Vermeer on February 28, 1951 at Sioux Center, IA. They lived near Boyden until 1980 when they moved to Sioux Center. They took great pride in their farming operation, and Bertha worked tirelessly supporting her husband in the farming operation. Harvey died when he was 51, leaving Bertha as a widow for many years. She was a strong woman with a deep love for Jesus and her family. She enjoyed teasing and had a good sense of humor, her recognizable hearty laugh was often heard by many. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. In April of 2011, Bertha became a resident at the Good Samaritan Society, Memory Care Unit in Windom, MN where she died this past Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the age of eighty-six.
She is survived by her children, Harlin (Elaine) Vermeer of Hernando, FL; Bev (Dave) De Younge of Sioux Center, IA and Jim (Julie) Vermeer of Humboldt, IA; seven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one brother, Herman (Adeline) Brenneman of Sioux Center, IA; one sister, AnnaMae (Don) Broek of Sioux Center, IA and two sisters-in-law, Joan Brenneman of Sioux Center, IA and Marjorie Chassels of Highland, IL.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Grace; her husband, Harvey Lee; two brothers and two sisters.
