Johanna Cornelia Van Voorst

     Johanna Van Voorst age 89 of Sioux Center, IA died Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the Sioux Center Hospital in Sioux Center, IA.

     Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 3rd at the Netherlands Reformed Church of Sioux Center, with Reverend A.T. Vergunst officiating. 

     Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

     Visitation will be Saturday, April 1st from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

     Johanna Vanden Brink was the daughter of Martin and Lizzie (Rus) Vanden Brink, born Feb 26, 1928 at the home of her parents near Corsica, South Dakota.  There she attended country school.  At the age of 13 her family moved to Alvord, IA and she continued her education thru the eighth grade.
     Johanna married Gerrit Van Voorst on Sept 16, 1948.  They made their home near Sioux Center, IA and together they farmed for 42 years and raised 8 children.
     Jo loved gardening, wintering in Arizona, and spending time with her family.  She was a lifetime member of the Netherlands Reformed Church.  In 2009 her husband Gerrit died after 61 years of marriage.

One sister,  Cornelia Hoogendoorn, Rock Rapids, IA, one brother, John (Lois) Vanden Brink, Montevideo, MN.  Brothers-in-law: Jake Van Voorst, Inwood, IA, Jack Dibbet, Sioux Center, IA; sisters-in-law: Dort Van Voorst, Sioux Center, IA, Hattie Rus, Corsica, SD, and Marie Bakker, Rock Valley, IA.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerrit Van Voorst, brother-in-law Gilbert Hoogendoorn.
