Elda Vander Schaaf age 73 of Sioux Center, IA died Monday, March 13, 2017 at the Sioux Center Hospital in Sioux Center, IA.
Memorial service will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Free Grace Reformed Church of Middleburg with Rev. Stephen Breen officiating.
Prayer service for family and friends will be held on Thursday at 9:30 AM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
Elda Faye (De Kam) Vander Schaaf was born February 23, 1944, the daughter of Elbert and Nelvia (Prins) at Luverne, MN. She grew up in the Leota and Edgerton, MN area. Elda received her education from the Edgerton High School and then went on to graduate from Dordt College in Sioux Center. After college she taught at Sibley Christian School in Sibley, IA. Elda was united in marriage to Delbert Vander Schaaf on July 20, 1967 at the Worthington Christian Reformed Church. They made their home on their farm near Middleburg and she worked for the Sioux Center Christian School. Later after her children were grown she worked at Royal Meadows nursing home in Sioux Center. For many years she worked for Myron Toering law. She was a member of the Middleburg Free Grace Reformed Church where she was active with children’s and music ministries and the women’s guild. In her spare time she enjoyed music, playing piano, reading, sewing or crocheting.
She is survived by her husband, Delbert of Middleburg, IA; their children, Lisa Vander Schaaf of Marquette, MI; Lyle and Connie Vander Schaaf of Marquette, MI; Lana Vander Schaaf of Marquette, MI; Lori and Jesse Frederick of Ames, IA and Lloyd and Chelsea Vander Schaaf of Marquette, MI; seven grandchildren, her siblings, Gerald (Jane) De Kam of Corvallas, OR; Nellie Ann Kruger of Worthington, MN; Clarice Wixon of Marion, SD; Beverly (Norman) Gravenhof of Worthington, MN; Gertrude (Thede) Bakker of Winnipeg, Manitoba; Geneva (John) Van Dorp of Wiarton, Ontario; Wesley (Barb) De Kam of AZ and Darla De Kam of Worthington, MN.
Elda was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Nelvia; brothers-in-law, Alvin Habben, Merlin Kruger, Carol Wixon, James Vander Schaaf, Wayne Vander Schaaf, Bud Vander Broek and Ed Zommermand.
