David Leroy Peterson

     David Leroy Peterson, age 66, of Sioux Center, IA, died unexpectedly Monday, March 6, 2017, at his residence in Sioux Center, IA.

      Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, March 13th at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, IA, with Rev. Jamie Dykstra officiating. 

     Burial will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, March 13th at Rockfield Cemetery near Beresford, SD.

      Visitation will be Sunday, March 12th  from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

      David Leroy Peterson was born March 16, 1950 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the son of Roy and Ardis (Nelson) Peterson.  He was raised in Alsen, SD and attended Cleveland Township Country School.  He graduated from Beresford High School in Beresford, SD.  After his education he drove truck for a couple of years. 

      He was married to Merry Anderson of Hawarden, IA on December 29, 1969.  They lived near Alsen, SD and David worked for Van Buskirk Construction for 17 years.  He worked in Wisconsin for 1 year where he helped build a golf course and returned to Iowa and worked 17 more years for Van Buskirk Construction.  On January 15, 2000 David married Emmajean Dunn at Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA.  They lived on an acreage south of Rock Rapids until 2006, when they moved to Sioux Center, IA.  Due to failing health David retired in 2011. 

     He was a former member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids and current member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards with friends and attending movie theaters.  He enjoyed attending dances with Emmajean in Luverne, MN and visiting with folks about the “good ole days”.  He will be remembered as a grateful, genuine man of faith, who cared for his family.

      David is survived by his wife, Emmajean Peterson of Sioux Center, IA; son, Kevin Peterson of Sioux City, IA; daughter, Serina Peterson of Omaha, NE; stepchildren, Reta (Steve) Janssen and their children, Aaron, Philip, Jesse and Stevie Marie of Doon, IA, Brenda Bennett and her children, Joshua and Jessica of Vista, CA, Kevin (Susanne) Hise and their children, Alexandrouse and Kevin Jr. of Rock Rapids, IA and Daniel (Dana) Dunn and their children, Tyler, Eli and Carly of Sioux Center, IA; two sisters, Maureen (Lawrence) Schiefen of Hawarden, IA and Sharon (Roger) Jensen of Beresford, SD.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ardis Peterson; and brother, Terry Peterson.
