Marlee Mae Zeutenhorst, age 82, of Sioux Center, IA, died Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center, IA.
A memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 14th at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center with Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating.
A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Tuesday at 10:00AM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
Visitation will be Monday, February 13th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM with family present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center, IA.
Marlee Mae was born September 10, 1934 in Lake Wilson, Minnesota, the daughter of Dick and Bertha (Vander Pol) Kluis. As a young girl, her family moved to Maurice, IA, where she graduated from Maurice High School in 1952. She was united in marriage to Herbert Zeutenhorst on September 10, 1952 at First Reformed Church in Maurice, IA. They were blessed with five children, Gary, Brian, Brad, Leah and Jim. The family moved to Sioux Center, IA in 1965. Marlee worked as a waitress at the Holland House and later for the Sioux Center School District as a cook. She retired from Sioux Center High School after 40 years of service.
She was a member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. She enjoyed her daily coffee groups, cooking, baking, socializing with her many friends and anyone who crossed her path. She was an avid reader, fan of Northwestern Athletics, and enjoyed playing games, especially Scrabble. She loved attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.
In 2010 her husband, Herb died after 58 years of marriage. Marlee remained active continuing to attend her grandchildren’s many school events. She remained living in their home until her health made it necessary for her to move to a care facility.
She is survived by her children, Gary (Lora) Zeutenhorst of Spencer, IA, Brian (Deb) Zeutenhorst of Hopewell, NJ, Brad (Sherrie) Zeutenhorst of Sheldon, IA, Leah (Al) Tokheim of Johnston, IA and Jim (Jill) Zeutenhorst Sanborn, IA; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Wanda Hofmeyer of Orange City, IA; three brothers, Rod (Darlene) Kluis of Maurice, IA, Herm Kluis and Dave (Lonna) Kluis, both of Orange City, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Bertha Kluis; husband, Herb Zeutenhorst; and brother, Marvin Kluis.
Memorials can be made to the Sioux Center Community School Lunch Program to help students who qualify for reduced lunch or some type of food assistance.
