Maryann Schut

     MaryAnn Schut, age 86, of Sioux Center, IA, died Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center, IA.

      A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14th at 11:00AM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Pastors Roger Voskuil and Nate Hobert officiating.

      A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Saturday at 10:00AM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center.  Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

      A visitation will be held on Friday, January 13th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM with family present at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.

      Memorials may be directed to Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center, IA.

      MaryAnn was born June 2, 1930 to Tony and Nellie (Haverhals) Van Berkel at Hawarden, Iowa and was raised on rural farms near Lebanon, Iowa. She attended country school and helped with the day-to-day operations of the family farm.

      On March 16, 1949, MaryAnn married Ellsworth Schut at Lebanon, IA. The couple lived and farmed in the Sioux Center area for many years until moving to Regency Retirement Center in Sioux Center. In 2015, they entered Crowne Pointe and Royale Meadows in Sioux Center.

      MaryAnn was a member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center where she was active in LYDIA Circle and taught catechism for many years. She was a youth sponsor for nine years and a 4-H club leader for 15 years.  MaryAnn was a kind, gentle and soft-spoken woman who was devoted to her family. She was gracious and quick with a “thank you” or an “I love you”.  She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, cooking, baking and following Sioux Center sports. MaryAnn and Ellsworth stayed busy in their later years following their grandchildren’s activities.

      MaryAnn is survived by her husband of 67 years, Ellsworth Schut; three daughters, Noreen (Ray) Meyer of Spencer, IA, twin daughters Mikell Mouw (Dan) Uphoff and Melinda Schut-Tibbetts, both of Sioux Falls, SD; a son, Elson (Deb) Schut of Sioux Center, IA; seven grandchildren, Kristin (Nate) Kroesche of Sioux Falls, SD, Amanda (Nate) Hobert of Fitchburg, WI, Nate (Kacie) Meyer of Iowa City, IA, Kacey (Rusty) Flannery of Sioux City, IA, Amber (Joshua) Mork of Sioux Center, Katelyn (Troy) Smit of Sioux Center and Courtney Schut (fiancé Seth Sandbulte) of Boyden, IA;  fourteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Mitchell (Irene) Van Berkel of Edgerton, MN; one sister, Adelene (Herman) Brenneman of Sioux Center; two sisters-in-law, Marcia Mulder and Pauline (Tony) De Haan; and one brother-in-law, Herlan (Betty) Schut, all of Sioux Center.

      She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Pearl Altena; brother, Severt Van Berkel; a nephew, Harry Van Berkel; and a niece, Nelva Jean Dubbe.
