Carol Lynn was born to Arthur Elmer “Al” and Ann (Van Velzen) De Wit on April 17, 1951 in Sioux Falls, SD. She attended Calvin Christian School, Whittier Junior High School and Lincoln Senior High School graduating with the class of 1969. Carol went on to Dordt College graduating in 1973 with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education with minors in Library Science and Speech.
During Christmas break of her sophomore year at Dordt College, Carol married the love of her life, Tom Van Den Bosch, on December 29, 1970 at the First CRC in Sioux Falls. Tom and Carol were blessed with three sons: Kyle Thomas, Mark Evan and Todd Elliot. They spent the first 27 years of their marriage in Hull, IA where Tom taught and coached at Western Christian High School. Tom and Carol moved to Sioux Center in June, 1998 when Tom took a position at Dordt College.
Carol’s professional career included: Second Grade Teacher at Sheldon Christian School, Title I Teacher at Hull Christian School, Director of the Hull Public Library, Para-professional at Sioux Center Christian School and since August, 1989, the Librarian at Hull Christian School. She always said about her Librarian position, “It isn’t even work, it is just fun!” Her career also included serving as an Administrative Assistant at the Sioux Center Chamber of Commerce office and as the Tree-mendous Savers Club Coordinator at American State Bank.
Carol’s two passions in life were children and reading! This was evident in the many things that she was involved in. For many years Tom and Carol were foster parents through Bethany Christian Services and cared for babies awaiting adoption. She enjoyed serving as a GEMS leader, serving on the prayer team for Katelyn’s Fund Orphan Ministry and being a “Coach” with Safe Families for Children. Carol also enjoyed leading Story Hour for various ministries. She loved being “Grandma Carol” at the Royal Family Kids Camp for foster children.
