Theresa Vander Ploeg was born on October 3, 1927, the daughter of Nick and Ella (Vande Berg) Vander Ploeg on the family farm 1 ½ miles south of Carmel, IA. Theresa was the first daughter born into the family, with 4 older brothers welcoming her to the family. At 4 years of age, Theresa and her family moved to a farm east of Sioux Center. She attended Holland Township #3 country school for 8 years. Theresa then went on to high school and graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1944. Taking business class in high school, which was common in those days, Theresa got a part time job with the Maurice Te Paske Law Office. Since she did not drive her Dad drove her to and from work each day. In 1946, Theresa and her parents moved to Sioux Center, leaving her brother to manage the farmstead. She was hired on full time at the Te Paske Law Office. It was at that time that Theresa learned how to drive. Theresa spent her entire career with the law office even after Maurice Te Paske passed away and Roger Evans took over. Interestingly, Theresa worked with her cousin, and best friend Ellen Van Roekel for all but a few short years. In 1985, after 42 ½ years, with the law office, Theresa retired. Work was not the only thing on Theresa’s mind. She enjoyed traveling and in 1961, she traveled around the world. Leaving the east coast, she made stops in Greece, Holy Land, India, Singapore, Tokyo and Hawaii before landing on the west coast of the United States. She made several trips to Europe and had taken many bus tours. Theresa was a Sunday School teacher for 25 years at her home church, First Reformed Church and enjoyed going to the Ladies Circle. In October of 2012, she became a resident at the Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Bobbie Vander Ploeg of Lynden, WA; cousin and special friend, Ellen Van Roekel of Sioux Center; along with nine nieces and seven nephews.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and spouses, Theodore (Gertrude) Vander Ploeg; Lawrence (Ann) Vander Ploeg; Donald (Gertrude) Vander Ploeg and Rev. Elmer Vander Ploeg.
