Gertrude (Lumkes) Haak was born, June 27, 1923, in Wichert, IL, the daughter of Maynard and Henrietta (Hommes) Lumkes. Gertrude attended school and grew up in Wichert, IL. She was united in marriage to Willian (Bill) Haak on April 18, 1946, in Wichert. There they made their home on a Gladiola farm until 1953 when they moved to Wisconsin, and North Carolina for a period of time, before settling in Phoenix, AZ on a dairy farm in 1963. Bill passed away on May 8, 1975, and Gertrude continued to live in Arizona until moving to Sioux Center, IA in 2011. Gertrude is survived by her children, Sandy (Bill) DeJong of Bonanza, OR; Bill (Delia) Haak of Gentry, AK; Ruth (Dave) Ruter of Sioux Center, IA; and Steve (Wendy) Haak of Portland, OR; daughter-in-law Mel Haak of Richland, WA; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and a sister, Ida Van Zwieten of Winfield, IL.
