Vernon Mouw age 96, of Sioux Center, IA died Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.
Memorial service will be held on Monday at 3:30 PM at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. R. Van Rathbun officiating.
Prayer service for family and friends will be held on Monday at 2:30 PM at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:30 - 5:00 PM with the family present at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center.
Vernon Peter Mouw was born February 5, 1920, the son of Peter and Florence (Balkema) Mouw. Vernon was raised in Sioux Center and graduated from Sioux Center High School. On December 18, 1944, Vernon married Alice Marie Cates at NAS Chapel, Pensacola Beach, Florida. They lived in Norfolk, Virginia, while he served his country in the United States Navy Air Corp. From there they moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he worked at an investment firm. They started their family and moved to Sioux Center, Iowa where Vernon continued his career in finance at the First National Bank. Vernon attended Central Reformed Church where he served as an Elder, Vice President of Consistory and sang in the choir. He also served on many civic boards; Library Board, Sioux Center Hospital Board, Sioux County Conservation Commission, Sioux Center Park Board, Sioux Center Heritage Board, First National Bank Board of Directors and the 1991 Centennial Celebration Steering Committee. Vernon had many interests and hobbies including hunting, fishing, snow skiing and most importantly spending time with his family.
Vernon is survived by; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and James Smith of Chapel Hill, NC, son and daughter-in- law, Greg and Karen Mouw of Sioux Center; five grandchildren and spouses: Kacey and Rusty Flannery, Ciara Mouw, Tim and Kristi Gesink, Jeremy and Jessica Gesink, Jennifer Bald; thirteen great grandchildren: Shalee, Sydney, Nyiah, Taya and Makai Gesink; Ty, Ethan, Karson and Kash Gesink; Kaitlyn and Brooklyn Bald; Paityn Pratt and Aidyn Mouw; sister, Eva Mouw of Le Mars, IA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Marie Mouw; parents, Peter B. and Florence; sister, Muriel Bell; brothers-in-law, Glen Bell, Barend Mouw; and Mrs. Nick Balkema.
