Rodney A. Hulshof, 65, of Sioux Center, Iowa, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2016, at Sioux Center Health Hospital.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 2, from 1-4pm, with the family present from 2-4pm at Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A special time of sharing memories for family and friends will begin at 4pm.
On Monday, October 3, there will be a 10am prayer service at First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with interment to follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
A memorial service will be held on Monday at 11am at First Reformed Church with Pastor Travis Else and Pastor Jamie Dykstra officiating.
Rod was born in Sioux Center on July 17, 1951, to Arnold and Dorene (Boeve) Hulshof. He was raised on a farm in rural Rock Valley and graduated in 1969 from Rock Valley Community High School. He then went to Iowa State University graduating with an ag business degree in 1973. He then began his career working in agribusiness in various positions. For the past 11 years, he was employed with Land O’ Lakes in Sioux City, Iowa.
In 1971 he married Lorraine Haverhals; to this union 3 children were born—Mark, Teri, and Denise. On February 22, 1986, he married Pam McGlauflin in Elk Point, SD. The couple had two children—Melissa and Ryan. Rod raised his family in Northwest Iowa, primarily in Sioux Center.
Rod enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, hunting, golfing and watching the Minnesota Vikings. He loved watching his grandchildren grow and spending time on the boat at the lake. He also enjoyed traveling with his family.
He will be remembered for his quick wit and strong work ethic. He had a way of making every situation fun.
Survivors include his wife, Pam; his parents, Arnold and Dorene of Sioux Center; his children, Mark (Jill) Hulshof of Sioux Center; Teri (Corey) Elgersma of Sheldon; Denise (John) Getting of Sartell, MN; Melissa (Lewis) Hackbart of Sioux Center; Ryan Hulshof of Chicago, IL. He had 9 grandchildren; Kacey, Ty, and Reid Hulshof; Ashley, Bailey, and Gracie Elgersma; Claire and Charlie Getting; and Lauren Hackbart. He had 2 siblings; John (Donna) Hulshof of Rock Rapids; Ronald (Conni) Hulshof of Sioux Center. He is also survived by mother-in-law, Geneva Miller of Sioux City and brother-in-law Mike (Becki) McGlauflin of Sioux City; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 2 nieces Lisa Warntjes and Kimberly Hulshof, and father-in-law George Miller Jr.
In lieu of flowers the Hulshof family requests to direct memorial donations to the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center’s Building Project Fund.
