Geraldine (Schiebout) Van Voorst was born on September 21, 1922 to Herman and Jennie (De Groot) Schiebout at Ireton, Iowa.  She was the 5th child in a family of 12 children.  Geraldine attended Ireton Christian School.  After her 8th grade graduation, Geraldine remained on the farm with her parents, helping out with the farm work and taking care of the younger family members.    Geraldine was a member of the Ireton Christian Reformed Church where she was a pianist for the Sunday services and taught Sunday school.
On September 5, 1945, Geraldine was united in marriage to Theodore (Ted) Van Voorst at the Ireton CRC.  Ted and Geraldine farmed together for many years by Ireton, LeMars, and Hull before retiring to Sioux Center in 1992. At that time, Ted and Geraldine became members of Bethel CRC.   In April of 2008, Ted and Geraldine became a residents of Crown Pointe in Sioux Center.  Ted preceded Geraldine in death on February 26, 2009.  In June of 2013 Geraldine became a resident at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center.
Geraldine was a very dedicated farm wife.  She helped Ted with many of the chores around the farm and planted a large garden every summer.  She canned lots of fruits and vegetables for her family. She also had a green thumb with a variety of beautiful flowers around the acreages where they lived and "african violets" in her home. In the winter, when the outside work was slower, she embroidered towels and crocheted doilies.   In her later years, macular degeneration made it unable for her to do handwork anymore, but she loved to sit and reminisce about the "horse and buggy days." Geraldine’s life was a reflection of contentment in her circumstances, whether good or bad. She had an unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior.
