David Charles Harrison, 57, of Sioux Center, Iowa passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota following a courageous battle with cancer.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 22, from 2:00-6:00 PM with the family present from 3:00-5:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home.
A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Monday, May 23, at 10:00 AM at the Central Reformed Church. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
A memorial service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at the Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Pastor Van Rathbun officiating.
The family prefers memorials in Dave’s name to “SURVIVEiT”, a community of survivors, doctors, experts, and allies who provide hope, knowledge, and resources crucial to surviving cancer.
David Charles Harrison was born April 21, 1959 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Morris and Delores (Countryman) Harrison.
Dave and his family lived in Omaha until 1967, when they moved to Greenfield, Iowa. In 1969, the family moved to Sioux Center where Dave attended school, and graduated from Sioux Center High School. After graduation, he attended Morningside College in Sioux City.
On June 6, 1980 Dave was united in marriage to Denise Popovich. The couple made their home in Sioux Center, and were blessed with a son, Charlie.
Dave began working for Brommer Sanitation in Sioux Center in 1981 and later became a partner in the business. He remained active in the business throughout his illness.
Dave had a passion for the outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing with friends and family. Each December, Dave and his son Charlie enjoyed a special father-son weekend during their annual deer hunting trip.
Dave was also a gifted artist and enjoyed drawing, oil painting and wood carving. Many of his projects depicted his love of nature, and wildlife. An unfinished dream of his was to someday do his own bronze casting. Dave was known as an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan, and was a proud father when his son became a fan as well.
Survivors include: his wife, Denise of Sioux Center; his son: Charles “Charlie” Michael Harrison of Sioux Center; his mother: Delores Harrison of Sioux Center; siblings: Kathy (Ed) Koeppel of Omaha, NE, Laurie Harrison, Sioux Center and Rob (Tara) Harrison of Sioux Center; his in-laws: Wade (Linda) Popovich of Burke, VA; Ned (Linda) Popovich of Woodbridge, VA; Doreen (Scott) Eiesland of Baxter, MN; Sandy Popovich of Hull, IA; and Michael (Barb) Popovich of Monument, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Morris Harrison; his father and mother in law: Nick and Everly Popovich; and a brother in law: Steve Popovich.
