Kathrine Visser was born September 8, 1919 near Sioux Center, Iowa the daughter of Watse and Gertrude (Sybesma) Bierma. She was raised and educated in Sioux Center. After her schooling she was a domestic aide for many families in the area and later employed at Art and Dave’s Dry Good Store for a short time. Kathrine married Gerrit Visser at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center on January 10, 1946. Following their marriage Gerrit and Kathrine farmed for eight years near Sioux Center. In 1953, they purchased a farm three miles north of Newkirk, Iowa where they farmed until their retirement in 1980. They settled in their home in Sioux Center in 1981. Gerrit passed away December 19, 2008.

Kathrine was a loving mother and grandmother who loved being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she prayed for daily. Inspirational music moved Kathrine. Kathrine and her late husband Gerrit, enjoyed attending choral and band concerts over the years. She loved playing piano with energy and expression, especially hymns.

She valued a good read and tried staying current on political and denominational issues. She valued opportunities for spiritual growth by attending Bible studies over the years. In the last year when she could no longer read for herself, she would listen to the "very words of God" read to her during visits from her family.

Kathrine spent many days sewing, gardening and baking. In fact she made the best homemade bread which was always on the table when she willingly hosted college friends of her children. Kathrine leaves a legacy of strong conviction and a sure faith in her Savior and Lord.
Survivors include her four children and their spouses: Dennis and Karen Visser of Iowa City, Gaylene and Loren Bouma of Hull, Bernita and Doug Vander Schaaf of Pella, and Phyllis and Bob Blankespoor of Inwood, along with her 15 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sibling Syne Bierma of Hudsonville, MI, sister-in-law, Frieda Bierma of Granville, MI;  brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Peter and Muriel Visser of Sioux Center; sister-in-law, Adrianna Toots Kots of Birnamwood, WI; sister-in-law, Gertrude Visser of Sioux Center and numerous nieces and nephews.
