Cora Broek was born on December 3, 1918 to Teunis and Dena (Zeutenhorst) Jansen. She was the oldest of 10 children. Cora attended school through 8th grade. She loved school and it was her wish to continue her education but family duties called. She was a champion speller.
On January 7,1938 she married Arend Broek. They worked alongside each other farming for 30 years. They moved to Sioux Center in 1966. Cora began working at Dordt College cleaning dorm rooms. She also cooked Sunday dinner for her ever growing family every week. Her sons-in-law say she could well have won the “Best Gravy Maker” award.
Arend and Cora enjoyed wintering in Arizona for many years. Arend passed away on May 21, 1982.
Cora enjoyed playing games with friends, traveling, quilting and crocheting. Last year she gifted her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren over 100 hanger covers which she crocheted.
In 2000, Cora moved to Crown Pointe. She treasured the relationships formed with other residents and her care givers. As Cora's body grew weaker, she used her time to pray for her family. We are extremely grateful for her legacy.
