Larry Lee Wielenga, 62, of Sioux Center, Iowa, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016 surrounded by his family at St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Thursday at 10:00AM at the Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 11:00AM at the Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. R. Van Rathbun officiating.

Larry was born on January 12, 1954 to Henry and Shirley (DeJong) Wielenga of Orange City, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm outside of Orange City and graduated from Maurice-Orange City High School. Upon graduation, Larry spent time living and working in California before returning to Iowa and graduating from Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, Iowa, with a degree in police science. On May 31, 1974, Larry was united in marriage to Mary Ann Brunk of Orange City. They settled in Sioux Center where Larry served the Sioux Center Police Department until his retirement in 2012.
Larry was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping with friends and family. He especially enjoyed taking the grandchildren out on his boat for lessons in fishing. Larry loved spending time with his family, and would often be found telling friends how proud he was of his children and grandchildren.
Larry is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of 41 years; his two children: Nikki (Mike) Bomgaars of Boyden, Iowa, and Travis (Libby) Wielenga of Ankeny, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Charli, Kyler, Blake, RyLee, and Cole Bomgaars, and Quinn and Alaina Wielenga; his brothers and sister: Arlan (Cindy) Wielenga of Seattle, Washington, Sharyl Schuller of Orange City, Daryl (Lenyce) Wielenga of Orange City, and Brian (Janice) Wielenga of Sheldon, Iowa, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by an infant sister, Helen Rae Wielenga, and his parents, Henry and Shirley Wielenga.
