Norm Vogel was born Aug 15, 1948 to Frank and Margaret (Bomgaars) Vogel in Orange City. He was raised in Orange City and moved to Hull when he was 18. He was a member of the 185th Air National Guard and was deployed to Vietnam from May of 1968 through May of 1969. Upon returning he married Wilma Davelaar on July 22, 1969, and they made their home in Hull. He was a member of the Hull Protestant Reformed Church and the American Legion Post 380.
Norm was a trucker throughout his life. His Dad always said that he was born with a steering wheel in his hands. He owned 6 different trucks and was proud of each and every one. He hauled many different things: milk, feed, corn, soybeans, sugar beets, cement blocks, steel, flowers, refrigerated goods and lots of livestock!!!
Norm retired on September 15, 2007 due to complications of Lewy Body Disease. After retirement he enjoyed going out for rides and that was one place he would NEVER fall asleep. He even double checked Wilma's driving and alerted her if he thought she was driving too carelessly. He also enjoyed listening to others visit, watching through the window for trucks and watching his grandchildren play, as long as they were not fighting.
His memory lives on in his wife of 46 years, Wilma of Hull; his four children and grandchildren: Tim and Karen Vogel and their daughters, Abby and Alexis of Papillion, NE; Brent Vogel and his children, Paige and Dalton of Inwood, IA; Laurie and Nate Van Kley and their children, Cowan, Breya, Brennan and Trevin of Rock Valley, IA; Kim and Evan Brummel and their children, Braxton, Paityn and Ty of Hull, IA; his brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Gwen of Freedom, NY; his sister and brother-in-law, Fran and Roger De Kruyf of Boyden, IA; sister-in-law, Thelma Vogel of Lynden, WA; his Davelaar in-laws: Jerry and Jean Davelaar of Seal Beach, CA, Jim and Glenda Davelaar of Sioux Center, IA, Nancy and Harv De Jager of Maurice, IA and Brian and Sheila Davelaar of Ireton, IA and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cornie and Lenora Davelaar, and brother, Arnold Vogel.
