Cathy Wagenaar

Cathy Wagenaar, 56, of Sioux Center, IA, died Thursday, November 12, 2015, at Sioux Center Health. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 4-6PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2:00PM at the Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. R. Van Rathbun officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. The Wagenaar family prefers memorials to Sioux Center Home Health & Hospice, c/o Sioux Center Health Foundation. Cathy Lynn (Jansen) Wagenaar was born October 2, 1959 in Sioux Center, Iowa to Henry "Junior" and Winona (Wissink) Jansen. Cathy graduated from Sioux Center Community Schools and attended Morningside College in Sioux City where she earned her MSN, BSN, RN and LPN degrees. Cathy was employed at Sioux Center Health from 1981 through August of this year. Cathy married Jake Wagenaar, Jr. on August 24, 1991. She was an active member of Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center where she had served as a Sunday school teacher and youth group sponsor. In her spare time Cathy enjoyed reading, antiquing, collecting Crayola memorabilia and watching television. Cathy was always an "on call" nurse, even for her family. She spent countless hours caring for her parents through illnesses and in their final years. In March of 2014 Cathy was diagnosed with a rare form of Pancreatic Cancer known as Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors. She bravely fought her illness until she passed away on November 12, 2015. Cathy is survived by her husband, Jake "Cub" Wagenaar, Jr. of Sioux Center; five siblings and their spouses: Jeff and Tina Jansen of Sioux Center, Beth and Bob Zeutenhorst of Maurice, Carol and Bruce Hofmeyer of Alton, Gregg and Lilia Jansen of Omaha, NE, Scott and Dianne Jansen of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Karen Wagenaar of Sheldon, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Larry Krogh of Spencer, brother-in-law, Ronald Wagenaar of Mason City along with 27 nieces and nephews and 21 great nieces and nephews on the Jansen side of the family, 3 nieces and nephews and 9 great nieces and nephews on the Wagenaar side of the family. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Winona Jansen, Jr. and her father and mother-in-law, Jake and Johanna Wagenaar, Sr.
