Johanna H. Vermeer, 96, of Sioux Center, IA, died Monday, October 5, 2015, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 6-8PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Saturday at 10:00AM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11:00AM at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. David Sikkema officiating. The Vermeer family prefers memorials to Royale Meadows Care Center, c/o Sioux Center Health Foundation or First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Johanna Henrietta Vermeer was born on June 25, 1919 to Jacob E. and Henrietta (Nyman) Vermeer on the family farm near Sioux Center, Iowa. She received her education through the 12th grade at Sioux Center Schools. She then taught 5th and 6th grade at Sioux Center Christian School for two years. On June 25, 1941, Johanna was united in marriage to Harvey J. Vermeer at her family's farm south of Sioux Center. Following their marriage, the couple lived at Sioux City, Iowa the first three years of marriage. They then lived at Sioux Center the remainder of her life. Johanna worked for 27 years at Bosch's Clothing Store in downtown Sioux Center. Johanna was a devoted, life-long member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center where she was active in Women's Missionary Societies, as well as, teaching Sunday school and catechism. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, handwork, baking, sewing and gardening. Johanna loved playing games and cards with children and grandchildren. Johanna is survived by four children: Helene (Bob) Schuiteman of Sheldon, IA; Joyce (David) Sikkema of Holland, MI; Dorothy (Mike) Voortman of Mc Cook Lake, SD; Daniel (Barb) Vermeer of Look Out Mountain, GA; her 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Johanna is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Frances "Fritz" Vermeer and Loretta Vermeer of Sioux Center along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, infant son, Jacklin Hale Vermeer, sister and brother-in-law, Harriet and John Vander Schaaf, brothers and sisters-in-law: Bert and Angeline Vermeer, Edwin and Priscilla Vermeer, Wilbert "Bill" and Harriet Vermeer, Arnold Vermeer and Marvin and Gladys Vermeer.
