Loyd Vermeer, 90, of Sioux Center, IA, died Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Saturday at 10:00AM at the Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11:00AM at the Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. R. Van Rathbun officiating. The Vermeer family prefers memorial donations to Sioux Center Home Health and Hospice or Sioux Center Veterans Memorial Fund. Loyd William Vermeer was born on November 2, 1924 on a farm southeast of Sioux Center, which is now "The Ridge" golf course to E.E. and Alida (Borgman) Vermeer. Loyd attended elementary and high school in Sioux Center before being drafted into the Navy in 1944. Loyd was discharged from the Navy in August 1946 and married Helen DeWit on June 24, 1947. Loyd then worked at the Sioux Center Livestock Sales Co., managed the Ben Franklin Store in the early 1950's and worked for the Farmer's Coop. Society for 37 years, serving as General Manager for 26 years. Loyd was a faithful member of Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center. He served as a deacon and elder and participated in the church choir. Loyd and Helen enjoyed doing many activities together including golfing, playing cards and having many fun times with a group of friends called "The Gang." Loyd served on many Boards including the Chamber of Commerce, Planning and Zoning and a member of the American Legion for over 60 years. Loyd enjoyed watching sports and as he would say, "anything with a ball in it." Loyd was survived by his wife Helen of 68 years. Other survivors are his son Paul and Nancy Vermeer of Dallas, TX; son Brian Vermeer of Reading, PA and son-in-law Arv Brenneman with his wife Shelly of Sioux Center, IA; his loving grandchildren: Pam and Seth Mock, Brittony Vermeer and Mike Foley, Josh and Amanda Brenneman, Stacey and Adam Bradshaw, Michael and Lori Vermeer, Afton Vermeer, Heather and Sam Lundgren, Trey Vermeer and Keaton Vermeer; his great-grandchildren: Zedekiah and Layla Mock, Jane and Edie Foley, Bailey Brenneman, Jace and Jerzi Bradshaw, Ashlyn Vermeer and Everett Lundgren. Loyd was also survived by his sisters Cynthia Kaskey and Ruth Bonnema; sister and brother-in-law Elnor and Dan Niffenegger; sisters-in-law Ellen Vermeer and Shirley Vermeeran; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gene and Norma De Wit. Preceding him in death were his parents, his daughter Jan Brenneman and his granddaughter Jill Brenneman, his brothers Irwin, Wallace and Wayne and his sisters Edna Van Roekel, Aldine Van Roekel, Hester Black and Mildred Schut.
