Glenn Salmon, 89, of Boyden and Sheldon, IA, died Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, IA. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at the First Reformed Church of Boyden, IA. A funeral service to honor the lives of Glenn Salmon, and Priscilla Salmon who died on July 30, 2015, will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 10:30AM at the First Reformed Church of Boyden with Rev. Dr. Verlyn Boone officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Sheridan Township Cemetery of Boyden. Glenn Harold Salmon was born February 6, 1926, to Perry and Mary (Vlieger) Salmon in Sioux City, Iowa. He was raised in Leeds area of Sioux City, and graduated from the Leeds High School. Upon graduation, Glenn enlisted in the US Army, serving as a radio operator, while stationed in Texas during World War II. On August 24, 1951, Glenn married to Priscilla Mae Post. They settled in Boyden, Iowa where they raised their son, Duane. Glenn was first employed at the Hull Co-Op Creamery as a milk truck driver. Glenn also enjoyed working with his hands and was later employed in Boyden with Kooiker Manufacturing and Demco where he used his skills as a welder and assembler. Glenn was a member of Boyden First Reformed Church and enjoyed gardening. When Glenn retired he was always willing to volunteer his time to help and serve others. He and Priscilla both were fond of being Foster Grandparents for the Boyden-Hull Community School. He was a member of the Wm. Monster Post 272, American Legion of Boyden. Another joy in Glenn's life was taking the time to drive members of the community who could not drive themselves to appointments or on errands. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Melissa Salmon; five grandchildren: John (Victoria) Salmon, Ronald Salmon, Eva Joy Salmon, Sarah Salmon, Paul Salmon and two great-grandchildren: Gabriel and Rowen Salmon and a brother-in-law, Maurice Post of Lake Worth, FL. Glenn is preceded in death by his son, Dr. Duane Salmon; father and mother, Perry and Mary Salmon; step father, Simon Menning; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Larry and Johanna Salmon and Donald and Lois Salmon; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Dorothy and Donald Wermes, Mary Lou and Chad Smith, Vicki and Cecil Monroe; a sister-in-law, Gertrude and Cornelius Haspels; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: John and Margaret Post.
