Bill Mouw, 88, of Sioux Center, IA, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at Sioux Center Health. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Sunday at 1:30PM at the Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held on Sunday at 2:30PM at the Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. R. Van Rathbun officiating. The Mouw family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society. William Leroy "Bill" Mouw, son of Marinus and Anna Marguerite (Schilt) Mouw, was born August 3, 1926 at Hull, Iowa. He moved with his parents to Sioux Center when he was six weeks old. Bill attended the Sioux Center Community Schools and graduated from high school in May of 1943. Bill attended Iowa State University at Ames until he left to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corp in January of 1945. Bill was discharged from the service in November, 1945 following the end of World War II. After the war he joined his father in the automobile business. Later he and his brother, Marion would operate Mouw Motors together for 31 years; Bill retired in 1991. Bill married Joan Vreeman, daughter of Hein and Johanna Vreeman, on June 6, 1952 in Sioux Center. Bill was appointed to serve on the Sioux Center City Council in 1959. Bill served as a city councilman for 14 years. On January 1, 1974, Bill was sworn in as mayor, a role he executed for the next 14 years. During these years Bill served the community in many Chamber of Commerce activities, as American Legion Post Commander and Adjutant and was involved in Republican Party politics. He also served on the State of Iowa Banking Board, First National Bank of Sioux Center Board of Directors and Mutual Telephone Company Board of Directors. Bill was a member of Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center where he had been involved as an Elder and church music. Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan Mouw of Sioux Center; brother and sister-in-law, Marion and Darlene Mouw of Sioux Center along with several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Midge and Bub Muilenburg, his father-in-law and mother-in-law and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. Gary and Nickie Vreeman.
