Paul D. Bauer, 88, of Sioux Center, IA, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. A visitation with the family present will be held prior to the funeral service on Saturday from 2:30-3:30PM at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 3:30PM at the Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Van Rathbun officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. Paul Dale Bauer was born June 11, 1926 in McClusky, North Dakota. While in elementary school, Paul's family moved to Wessington Springs, South Dakota. He graduated from Wessington Springs High School. He joined the US Navy and served aboard two aircraft carriers in the South Pacific during WWII as a Seaman 1st Class. He attended Yankton College for one year and then transferred to South Dakota State University, Brookings, South Dakota where he received his bachelor's degree in Vocational Agriculture. During his sophomore year in college he married Geneva F. Kuhnes and upon graduation they moved to Volga, South Dakota then ultimately Sioux Center, Iowa where he taught Vocational Ag. In 1959, he joined Ralston Purina Company where he stayed for 29 years working out of the Sioux City, Iowa and Minneapolis, Minnesota Regional offices, retiring as a District Sales Manager. Upon retiring he enjoyed the lake country of Minnesota, traveling and ultimately landing in Mesa, Arizona for 12 years before returning to Sioux Center, Iowa. Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Bauer; oldest son, Gary Bauer and 10 siblings. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Dawn Bauer of Sioux Center, Iowa; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Allen Gessell of Princeton, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Pam Bauer of Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren: Travis (Tricia) Bauer of Sioux Center; Cody (Kathy) Bauer of Hull; Stephanie (Omar) Solorzano of Kiron, Iowa; Allen Jr (Danielle) Gessell of Big Lake, Minnesota and Nathan (Ekaterina) Gessell of Colorado Springs, Colorado, as well as 11 great-grandchildren: Kade, Landon, Samantha Bauer; Isabella, Conner Bauer; Jacob, Sabastian, Madalyn Bauer-Solorzano; Easton, Macklin Gessell and Aleena, Alex and Alexa Gessell; and one sister, Violet Dauber of Yreka, California. Paul Bauer was an amazing husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa, teacher, mentor and leader! Simply put - he was a good man and made a positive impact on many lives over the years both personally and professionally. We are so grateful to have had the influences of his teachings in our lives for so many years! He will be forever missed and we will treasure all of the wonderful memories!
