Josephine Postma

August 24, 1922 — April 10, 2015

Josephine Postma, 92, of Sioux Center, IA, died Friday, April 10, 2015, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Tuesday at 10:00AM at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at 11:00AM at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating. The Postma family prefer memorials to Hope Haven Ministries. Josephine Antoinette Postma was born August 24, 1922 at Alamosa, Colorado, the daughter of Johannes and Hattie (Schakelaar) Heersink. Josephine was raised in the San Luis Valley near Alamosa. She met Gerrit Postma while he was stationed at an Army base near Alamosa; they were married on June 27, 1947. After Gerrit's discharge from the Army, the couple made their home in Northwest Iowa where they farmed near Rock Valley, Inwood and Ireton. Upon their retirement, they settled in Sioux Center, Iowa. Gerrit preceded Josephine in death on December 9, 2001. Josephine had been a member of Ireton Christian Reformed Church and was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Over the years, she enjoyed participating in Coffee Break Bible studies and various church and Christian school activities. Josephine was known for her love for family and her Lord and Savior. Surviving are her two sons and daughters-in-law: Duane and Shelley Postma of Sioux Center, Gerald and Rhonda Postma of Ireton; four daughters and sons-in-law: Joanne and Gary De Arment of Atlantic, IA, Esther and Paul Potter of Sioux Center, Joyce and Lyle Vermeer of Sioux Center, Lori and Verlyn Westra of Orange City; along with her 16 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Gerrit, Josephine was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rachel Potter, and six siblings.
