Edwin Zomermaand

Edwin Zomermaand, 71, of Sioux Center, IA, died Saturday, March 28, 2015, at his Sioux Center home. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Wednesday at 10:00AM at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00AM at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church with Rev. John Lee officiating. The Zomermaand family prefers memorials to Sioux Center Christian School Foundation. Edwin Harold Zomermaand was born on July 4, 1943 to Henry and Anna (Statema) Zomermaand in Maurice, Iowa. He was baptized and made Profession of Faith at Ireton Christian Reformed Church, where he was a member for 40 years. He graduated from Western Christian High School in 1960. Ed worked at Siouxland Implement in Ireton, Iowa for 6 years. In 1968, he was called into service with the Army National Guard based in Colorado Springs, Colorado for 2 years. Edwin married Arlys Vander Schaaf on May 6, 1966, in Middleburg, Iowa. After he returned from the Army, they lived on a farm southwest of Sioux Center, Iowa for 20 years. In 1995, Ed and Arlys moved to Sioux Center where he was employed for the City of Sioux Center until retirement in 2013. While living in Sioux Center, they attended Bethel Christian Reformed Church. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Arlys of Sioux Center; four children and their spouses: Rodney and Dawn (Groothuis) Zomermaand of Maurice, Julia and Rob Kroeze of Orange City, Sherry and Mick Visser, Cara and Daryl Wieringa all of Sioux Center; 15 grandchildren: Ashtyn and Jordan Hoekstra, Savanah and Brent Van Leeuwen, Tabitha, Ronaldo, Julia, Emilee and Jac Zomermaand, Kolin and Kerri Kroeze, Hayley, Brandon and Rylee Visser, Trevor, Austin and Mason Wieringa; a great-granddaughter, Skylar Hoekstra; siblings: Peter and Laura Zomermaand of Orange City, Dennis and Elaine Zomermaand of Maurice, Pastor Robert and Janine Zomermaand of Grand Rapids, MI, Shirley and Terry de Boom of Worthington, MN and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and parents-in-law, John R. and Harriet Vander Schaaf.
