Kathy Calkhoven, 91, of Sioux Center, IA, died Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 6-7:30PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Wednesday at 10:00AM at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00AM at the First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with Rev. Mark Verbruggen officiating. The Calkhoven family prefer memorials to Sioux Center Christian School Foundation or Sioux Center Home Health & Hospice. Katherine (Draayer) Calkhoven was born August 23, 1923 at Sioux Center, Iowa the daughter of Gerrit and Jane (Langstraat) Draayer. Kathy was raised near Maurice, Iowa where she attended Maurice Public School through eighth grade. On April 13, 1944, she was united in marriage to John Calkhoven in Sioux Center, Iowa. Kathy and John lived in Sioux Center where they raised their three children. John preceded Kathy in death on August 19, 1975. For most of her adult life Kathy's friendly smile greeted customers at the check-out aisle when she worked at Casey's Bakery, Foodland or Hy-Vee. She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center where she had been active in Ladies Aid Society. She was extremely fond of spending time with her family and following her grandchildren's activities. Surviving are her three children: Judy and John Van Kalsbeek of Orange City, Dennis and Jean Calkhoven of Hull, Jim and Jan Calkhoven of Sioux Falls, SD along with her 11 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Kathy is also survived by sister and brother-in-law, Cynthia and Gerrit Kruid of Sioux Center; sisters: Ann De Weerd of Rock Valley and Gladys De Weerd of Sioux Center; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Gary and Sandy Draayer of Sioux Center and Ken and Belle Draayer of Hull; three sisters-in-law: Dorothy Draayer of Orange City, Lill Draayer of Rock Valley, Gertrude Draayer of Sioux Center and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Nick Draayer, John Draayer, Ed Draayer; brother and sisters-in-law, Wilbur and Jean Draayer; sister and brother-in-law, Wilmina and Henry Kramer; two brothers-in-law: John De Weerd and Gerald De Weerd.
