Walter Disch, 79, of Sioux Center died unexpectedly Monday, March 16, at Sioux Center Health. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8PM, with the family present from 5-7PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. A prayer service for family and friends will be held on Friday at 9:15AM at the Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow the prayer service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11:00AM at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, Iowa Rev. Rick Henning officiating. Walter William Disch was born April 21, 1935, to Leonard and Martha (Schneider) Disch at home at Pinnow Cheese Factory, Brodhead, Wisconsin. He attended Mud Branch rural school through the eighth grade and then graduated from Argyle High School, Argyle, Wisconsin, in 1953. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and served from June 1953-1957. He graduated from Omaha Baptist Bible College in 1961. He married Kay Woody on June 23, 1961, in Newton, Iowa. He pastored Baptist churches in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Corwith, Iowa, and Sioux Center. He also drove a school bus for 40 years in Corwith and Sioux Center. He volunteered as an EMT and a Webelo Scout leader in Sioux Center. He enjoyed playing his marimba, visiting and preaching in area nursing homes. Survivors are his wife, Kay of Sioux Center; four children, Kathleen Gunder of Richmond, IN, Wayne Disch of Maurice, Kristi and John Donaker of George, and Kimberly and Erick Hunt of Waukee; 10 grandchildren, Sarah Neikirk, Kara and Nathan Brooking, Nathan Gunder; Brian, Brittany, Brenna and Brandon Hunt; John, Emily and Joel Donaker; and four great-granddaughters, Jordan, Marissa and Mackenzie Neikirk and Kinsley Brooking; Kay's siblings, Bill and Coralee Woody of Phoenix, AZ, Jerry and Linda Woody of Reasnor, Joe and Joanie Woody of Webster, NY, Janet and Bill Short of Osceola, Ray Woody of Fairfield, and Irma Woody of Newton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Leonard, Harold and Carl Disch; and a sister-in-law, Laurie Woody.
